The Monterey Peninsula
brings together some of California's most picturesque oceanside beauty with
the charm of our famous trio of towns by the sea, Pacific Grove, Monterey,
and Carmel.
Golf and Surf. The Peninsula sits at the
northern edge of the Big Sur coastline, described by many to be one of
the most spectacular shorelines in the world, with its high cliffs, pounding
surf and clear blue waters. Our Inn is situated very close to Seventeen
Mile Drive, which meanders through the Del Monte Forest and along the
coastline towards Carmel past magnificent private homes and some of the
world's finest
golf
courses, including Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Poppy Hills and Spanish
Bay. We would be happy to assist you with making golfing arrangements
at these courses or the many others that abound in our area.
The Monarchs. Pacific Grove is proud to be the home of the Butterfly
Trees, home to thousands of monarch butterflies that migrate from as far
away as two thousand miles to spend the winter here. Seeing the branches
and leaves of the eucalyptus and pine trees teeming with those wonderous
orange butterflies is an experience not to be missed. For further information,
visit the website of the Pacific
Grove Museum of Natural History or phone the museum at (831) 648-3116.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium. Adjacent
to Pacific Grove is the town of Monterey, home to the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, which
takes you to the stunning hidden world of the bay. The aquarium has more
than a hundred galleries and exhibits that recreate the rich habitats
of the bay and the Monterey
Bay National Marine Sanctuary. But if just looking at it is not enough,
you can arrange to go diving and see the breath-taking sea life of the
bay in person.
Shopping and Browsing. For terrific shopping and dining, be sure to
visit nearby Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. At one time
in the past, a bustling canning industry was housed on Cannery Row, which
was also made famous by American writer John Steinbeck. Besides interesting
shopping boutiques and gourmet restaurants that capture the flavor of
California, Carmel offers many fine art galleries featuring the work of
several world-famous artists. And what a place to dine! Carmel's wonderful
gourmet restaurants truly capture the flavor of California. There is no
finer place to enjoy a nice latte under a bright blue sky!
All This and Auto Races. Our region
is also home to a number of seasonal special events, including jazz and
blues festivals, races at Laguna
Seca, and the Concours
d'Elegance in Pebble Beach. For additional information on the Monterey
Peninsula, including a calendar of events, museums, galleries, theater,
golf, restaurants, wineries, local weather, maps of the region, and other
useful information, we invite you to visit Access
Monterey Peninsula.
